What is a Groodle?

You may have heard of a Labradoodle which have been around since the 1960s and were developed to provide allergy relief for the original breeders family.

Groodles (Goldendoodles in the US) were bred as an alternate to the Labradoodle to maintain the allergy component but also to introduce the placidity, trainability and loyalty of the Golden Retriever with the high intelligence of the Poodle.

The resulting Groodle is highly trainable, loyal, affectionate and charming.

I may be biased but my Groodles are gorgeous, intelligent, calm, affectionate with high activity levels especially when a ball is around!!

Groodle coats, colours, sizes

Coats

Groodle coats come in two main types - Fleece and Wool but they could be variations inbetween. Puppies can have different types of coat within the same litter.

The parents will determine the predominant coat type of the puppies. The breeder can give a good indication from birth what type of coat each puppy has.

Fleece is comparatively straight or wavy and is fairly thick. It feels soft and silky and not tightly curled.

Wool is loose curls to tight curls, soft and similar to a Poodle coat.

Purpleshack has three Groodles all with different coat types - typical fleece, spiral curly wool and a curly fleece.

Colours

Groodles are predominately a solid colour but may have some white on chest, head and feet. Recently parti variations are starting to appear including black and white or chocolate and white.

Main solid colours are Black, Chocolate, Red, Caramel, Apricot, Cream, White

Here at Purpleshack Groodles our main breeding female is a red wool and our main breeding male is a white wavy fleece with loose curls on his head. In the future we may introduce other colours.

Purpleshack Groodles are bred to be non-shedding dogs but we cannot 100% guarantee this.

Groodle Sizes

Groodles come in three sizes - Mini, Medium and Standard.

Mini - 35 to 45cm to the shoulder and between 8 and 15kgs.

Medium - 45 to 52cm to the shoulder and between 15 and 22kgs.

Standard - 50 to 70cm to the shoulder and between 22 and 40kgs+

Here at Purpleshack we breed Standard Groodles although they will be on the smaller end of the scale...around 50-55cm and 20-25kg but again we cannot 100% guarantee the eventual size of your dog.
