Purpleshack Groodles
Guardian Dogs
What is a Guardian Dog
Much as we would love to have all our breeding dogs live with us it is just not possible. The alternative is to have separate kennel facilities but that is also unacceptable to us. We want our puppies to grow and live within loving families so from time to time we will have the opportunity for families to apply for guardian puppies.
Guardian programs allow the breeder to expand their breeding program and offer puppies at a much reduced cost (if any) to prospective owners. The dogs return to the breeder for breeding purposes and at the end of their breeding life they are desexed and become the guardian owners forever dog.

There are conditions to be considered by prospective owners and if you think then its for you then contact us and we will send through a guardianship questionnaire. This enable us to select a puppy that is most suited to the prospective guardian home and to provide full disclosure in the way that Purpleshack run their guardianship program. If accepted we will be in contact when a guardian puppy comes available.

Conditions

-
The puppy will be chosen by Purpleshack Groodles and the name agreed on by both parties. We will try and match the puppy to the guardians requirements.
-
The puppy will go to the guardian home at minimum 8 weeks of age.
-
There is no adoption fee initially as the pup remains the property of Purpleshack Groodles until they retire from the program - Purpleshack aim to breed females 4 or 5 times but only if the dog is physically and psychologically healthy enough. On the advice of up to date research back to back breeding is recommended to prevent pyometra and associated conditions seen in 'entire' females. With that in mind breeding will likely be complete before the age of 4 or 5 years.
-
The guardian home must have complete secure and fairly high fence around the property.
-
The guardians agree to feed the dog premium high quality food recommended by the breeder.
-
The guardians agree to participate in puppy school from 12 weeks and to socialise the puppy to new things, other dogs, and people.
-
There must be no other 'entire' dog kept in the home male or female. Other desexed dogs are ok.
-
The guardian must ensure that no indiscriminate breeding occurs during the pups initial heat cycles.
-
The guardians must ensure that the dog is kept fully vaccinated and regular parasite control administered.....this is at the guardians expense
-
The guardians will agree to provide monthly updates including photos to Purpleshack Groodles.
-
The microchip details will remain under Purpleshack Groodles until the time of desexing when it will be transferred to the guardian family.
-
The guardian family will comply with council regulations and purchase lifetime council registration.
-
Purpleshack Groodles will pay for all veterinary care related to breeding and pregnancy but the guardian family will pay for all other veterinary care related to the dogs health and well being.
-
Preferably the guardian family will live within 1 hours drive of the breeder to facilitate breeding activities. If not then it can be discussed between both parties.
-
The guardian pup should be an inside dog with preferably someone at home during the day but this is negotiable.
-
The guardian MUST agree that should they be unable to keep the dog for any reason it must be returned to the breeder. Purpleshack may be able to offer monies to the former guardian depending on circumstances.
-
The guardian must be willing to attend a repro vet in Perth for pre-breeding screening and a local vet for frequent testing during the heat cycle.
-
The guardian pup will remain with the guardian during pregnancy (unless alternate arrangements made) and will be delivered to the breeder at 58 days gestation until the pups are 8 weeks (or earlier depending).
